Details: Can you tell me if I have a version of adobe where I can:
1) Highlight, markup, etc. and save that way
2) Add an electronic signature to a document

Fri 1/28/2011/ 6:01pm/ TJones (time)-
The version of Adobe Acrobat that you have is 'Reader' which basically just allows you to open and read a PDF but not to modify although you can digitally sign a document with reader as long as the creator of the PDF set it up to accept digital signatures (which is usually not the case).

You would need to get Adobe Acrobat Standard or Pro to mark up and modify PDFs. So if you wanted to step up and purchase Standard or Pro to allow mark-up here are some of the features and/or differences between them:

*** *** *** *** *** ***
Some of the features found in Acrobat X Standard
*Read, search, and share PDF's
*Create PDF files from any application that prints
*Scan paper documents into PDF and automatically recognize text with improved optical character recognition (OCR)
*Save PDF files as Microsoft Word documents and Excel spreadsheets, retaining the layout, fonts, formatting, and tables
*Merge files from multiple applications into a single PDF document
*Comment on PDF files with highlighter and sticky note tools
*Protect PDF documents with 256-bit encryption

Additional features found in Acrobat X Professional
*Personalize PDF Portfolios by adding information and branding
*Compare and highlight the differences between two versions of a PDF document
*Easily and reliably convert colors applied to any object type with enhanced color conversion-including converting RGB and rich blacks to solid black
*Catalog and build indexes of documents for searching across documents or collections of documents
*Validate accessible PDF documents and check for possible accessibility problems
*Enable Adobe Reader users to digitally sign forms

With Adobe Acrobat Reader, Standard, or Pro you can add an electronic signatures if the document was setup for it. Here is instructions on how it is done.

http://learn.adobe.com/wiki/download/attachments/52658564/samplesignatures.pd…

Hopefully that answered your questions. Please let me know if you have additional questions or need a quote on Standard or Pro. If the contracts that you are needing to sign are things that you sending out or being routed internally (as opposed to all in bound from other companies) let me know and I can show you a slick system that we're converting over to that streamlines getting signature and contracts routed and processed online.

Can access VPN but when he tries to access Outlook he gets a message saying “trying to connect” and then it disconnects.

Details: Comcast has a DNS poisoning issue where someone has redirected their DNS to map to private domains to a public address to exploit VPN users.

Resolution: Setup LMHost and Host file with names of local servers hardcoded to the private IP addresses of the servers needed.

Details: Do you have any idea why my appointments that I set up on my personal calendar in Outlook sometimes does not show up when I look at the calendar in month view? Look at February 18th as an example. From the monthly view, looks like my day is free… But when I click onto February 18th, I see I have a meeting scheduled at 10 am. It’s really frustrating ! If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I noticed this as soon as I started using my new laptop so maybe it’s something with the new version of Outlook (?)

Thu 2/17/2011/ 12:00pm/ TJones (time)-
Resolution: In Outlook under the Calendar ribbon for the “month” view set the check box to “high detail”.

For mailmerge I uninstalled and then reinstalled the application and then in Word went to “add-ins” under options, selected “com add-ins” and then checked the box for mapi mailmerge. The activation wizard started and then I added in the necessary info to register. OK.

Details: I got another Java update and followed your directions to shut every program down that was open, tell Java “Okay” then reboot. Unfortunately, when I tried to open my drug book this morning to start work, it is not opening again. This only affects my drug book and I followed your instructions but it still won't open. The Java upgrade showed a problem with a “packet” thingy.

I had allowed a previous Java upgrade a week before, carefully following your directions, and there were no problems at all. This time, with the problem with the upgrade, the drug book will not open. Can you help me again?

Tue 1/11/2011/ 10:05am/ TJones (time)-
Java update was applied and then had problems. Rolled back using system restore and then cleared all temp files, removed previous Java versions and installed latest version 6.23. Tested. Resolved.

Did the following which fixed the problem:

In IIS Manager navigate to the website SBS Web Applications selected each of the following Virtual Directories:

AutoDiscover
RPC
EWS
OAB

Once highlighted select Authentication, right click on Windows Authentication and select Advanced Settings and put a check in the enable kernel-mode authentication.

Do this for each directory.

Closed and opened Outlook and tested. OK. Resolved.

Detail: Outlook 2010 client which is on the same domain as the exchange server (SBS 2008) says “need password” although seems to work just fine. Offsite clients using Exchange Proxy get prompted for password constantly.

Details: User cannot print PDF’s from his computer to the Xerox printer. Apparently this is a driver issue.

Mon 12/27/2010/ 10:46am/ TJones (time)-
On Win 7 x64 laptop printing to the Xerox printer results in several sheets printing with either thumbnail images of the sheets and/or and error message.

The xerox from that machine is setup as it's own print queue instead of the correct server print queue because 64bit drivers could not be loaded on the server for this O/S. Determined that if the PDFs are printed from XP Mode on the laptop they print correctly despite still being directed through the print driver on the laptop. He will use this work-around.

Was able to get into system remotely. Fake screen was being presented to the customer which made it look like the computer had not fully booted when it actually had.

Killed the screen, killed running processes, disabled system restore, cleared temp files, disabled application blocker. Removed registry entries, initiated download and install of malware tools.

Installed MBAM, spybot, and SAS. Ran full scan and removed malware on all 3 scanners.

Rebooted and reinitiated scan.

Wed 12/1/2010/ 9:30am/ TJDavies-
Details: Everything was fine this morning until when on a city of Aurora webpage got a virus error popup. Then got a Think point popup. Started scanning his machine and then nothing was happening. Rebooted. Boots up to Think Point screen with options of Normal Start Up or Safe Mode. Will not allow Normal to be clicked on. After clicking of Safe it starts loading bases and nodules. Then says it is performing a full scan. Finds 61 infected files. 55 Restored but 6 can not be resotred because of missing nodules. Button to install full version. Requires admin override.

Wed 12/1/2010/ 1:50pm/ TJones (time)-
Removed additional malware components. Installed MS recovery console. Uninstalled AVG by downloading AVG uninstallation tool. Ran combofix. Rebooted. Rescanned. All clear.

Installed AVG 9.0 Enterprise, and update script. Reset system restore and hosts file. Removed final reference in registry startup to a DLL that was removed. Logged in and out and tested. OK.

User noticed periodic slow downs on his computer regularly. His PC especially is consistently slow after hours starting around 630pm. It was also slow this morning for 10-15 minutes but now seems to be OK.

The main server backup starts at 6:30pm every night which is most likely the cause of that issue. The issue during first startup is most likely due to the Outlook file syncronization taking place. He will call me next time it is happening so I can isolate what process is running which is causing the slowdown.
